From October 3rd to the 7th of October, the European Dyslexia Awareness Week is running. With dyslexia means a different way to process information, because of a difficulties connecting what letters look like to how they sound. It also add values being dyslectic; diversity, innovation, creativity, thinking outside the box etctera and it is more common than you think. Approximately 5% of the population has dyslexia.
The Dyslexia Awareness week is created to celebrate different ways of reading and everybody’s literacy rights and rights to take part of information in the society. The theme for the Dyslexia Awareness Week this year is: ‘Identifying dyslexia‘.
If you are a teacher or a student and have any kind of reading impairments, you can get a talking book-account via the library. Then you will be able to listen to books freely, as you can download to you mobile, iPad or iPhone via an app called Legimus. There are mainly fiction books in Swedish available through Legimus, but there are at least 15753 titles in English, and a lot of books in French, Spanish, German and other languages are also represented.
You can also use AppWriter Cloud available via your Google-account to listen to texts. And sometimes there are interactive textbooks you can use instead of physical textbooks. It might be worth checking out! To learn more about dyslexia take a look at this short video clip:
