Olympic games activities and resources

Because of the Summer Olympics Games, the library has arranged some resources.

  • A shelf displaying biographies / autobiographies of athletes during the coming month.
  • A word search on the Olympic games theme (see email or pick up from the library).
  • A video on The history of the Olympics: From ancient Greece to now (see email sent out by the library ).

If you as a student or teacher would like, you are very welcome to use these materials,

You are also very welcome to do an exercise where you read and learn about athletes in our encyclopedia Britannica School.

Here it is (see below).

If you have any problems with access to Britannica, please feel free to contact your librarian Elin. In that way, the exercise should go smoothly.

If you would like to read the Britannica articles in Swedish or any other language, it is possible to translate them through pressing the globe icon.

Activity
Explore the official Olympics website and select an athlete that sparks your interest. Take a look at their sport and their story. Then, answer the following questions:

  1. Why did you choose this athlete, and in which sport does this athlete compete?
  2. Where is this athlete from? What are some of their biggest achievements so far?
  3. What are some of the challenges they faced, and how did they overcome those challenges?
  4. Was there anything that surprised you or anything new that you discovered?
  5. What notable qualities does this athlete have (e.g. persistence, dedication, etc.), and how have these qualities helped them reach the Olympic Games?
